British Business Call For Less Tax

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

UK business leaders are urging the British Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne to reduce the top level of personal income tax from 50% at his budget in April.

The rate was introduced by the previous Labour Government, but has been kept by the Coalition.

If the number of business people we are seeing from the UK looking at our Monaco properties is anything to go by the 50% tax rate is having an affect on high-earners.

Tax And Mortgages In Monaco

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

The Daily Telegraph have run an interesting article in their property section about real estate in Monaco and the French Riviera, mentioning how closing costs for example in Monaco have come down, and noting a lot more interest at the moment from international buyers.

They also mention other taxes, especially those in France compared to Monaco, and mortgages from the banks in Monaco.

Monte Carlo Casino

While Prince Albert and Charlene’s wedding might have been making headlines around the world for all the wrong reasons, a report in today’s Independent in the UK lends credence to the old maxim that any publicity is good publicity.

The report focuses on SBM which owns the Monte Carlo Casino and counts the Hotel de Paris among the Monaco hotels in its portfolio.

In its most recent figures, revenues from the hotels went up last year, but the casino takings dropped – partly due it is claimed to the smoking ban. And given the amount of money that can be won or lost at the Monte Carlo Casino it’s no surprise perhaps that the more nervous cigarette smokers didn’t fancy spending a few hours playing poker with tensions rising – and not being able to smoke!

The wedding though should help things along in the coming months.

Charlene – Will She, Won’t She?

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Monaco is abuzz with news that Friday’s wedding between Charlene Wittstock and Prince Albert might not go ahead.

The rumours started after a French magazine claimed that Charlene tried to flee to South Africa last week, when she found out Albert had another illegitimate baby – who is reportedly 15 months old.

But while the world’s press speculate on whether Charlene will turn up for the wedding on Friday, the palace issued a statement robustly denying the claims and Prince Albert’s lawyer confirmed he will be taking legal action against the French magazine, adding that all is well and he was with them in Paris just three days ago.

Guests at the wedding are to include BHS boss Philip Green, Sir Richard Branson, Naomi Campbell, countless European Royals and Giorgio Armani, who has designed Charlene’s wedding dress.

Our money is on the wedding going ahead.
